Things to know about adult education


Definition and concentration of adult education
(eLearning, online learning)

"Advanced training is the continuation or resumption of organised learning after the completion of a first period of education at school, college and occupation with the objective of renewing, deepening and improving the acquired knowledge, skills and accomplishments or of learning new knowledge, skills and accomplishments. Advanced training is intended, aimed learning: from self-studies with the help of technical literature up to institutionalised forms of learning, the advanced training course."

Adult education is necessary for an environmental equitable development, for a democratic society, for equality, for a scientific, social and economical development and for structuring a world in which war and violence will be replaced by dialogues and a culture of peace.  Lifelong learning shall strengthen the autonomy and responsibility of adults, support them with the handling of the economical, cultural and social changes. Adult education makes an important contribution to a human, intelligent society.

Starting from the motifs of the participants, it can be differentiated in

  • ascent education which helps to get a certain position in the social structure
  • certitude education which updates the occupational knowledge and contributes to preserve the position
  • development education which encourages the life-accompanying critical contention
  • Catch-up education in addition to the basic training
